Complex Carbohydrates
Endurance athletes need quite a bit of energy during training and events such as marathons, triathlons, etc. For a sustained energy source, athletes rely on complex carbohydrates. Carbohydrates not only power the body with energy but recovery as well through muscle glycogen. With a full storage of glycogen, faster recovery and improved lean muscle growth markedly increase. Endurance athletes also like the fact that they can throw in a scoop or two of complex carbs for additional "fuel" with their favorite sports drink.
